HostColor (HC) provides dedicated server and cloud hosting services in the Amsterdam Metropolitan area from Tier 3 and Tier 4 data center facilities that meet the highest possible standards set by the IT telecommunications industry. The data centers we use have various certifications depending on the type of facility. In general, all our Amsterdam data centers are ISO 27001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001, and SSAE16 SOC I, SOC II, or SOC III certified. All are GDPR and PCI-DSS compliant.
How long will it take to provision my Amsterdam dedicated server?
This depends on the specific Amsterdam metro data center you choose and the specific server configuration you require. For our most frequently used Amsterdam data center locations, it takes up to 1 hour to install your dedicated server and send the login credentials as a welcome email in your account and to the email address registered in your account. More specifically:
- During business hours (9:00 am - 5:00 pm local time) 30 minutes - 1 hour server delivery time
.
- Outside the business hours (5:00 pm - 9:00 am local time): 2 hours - 9 hours server delivery time (with an average delivery time of 4 hours)
- Weekends: 1 hour - 24 hours server delivery time (with an average delivery time of 8 hours)
The lowest average delivery time applies to dedicated servers in Amsterdam that use a standard Linux operating system (OS) such as Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, or virtualization platforms such as ProxMox or VMware, and the CPU, RAM, and storage disks listed in the server plan, as well as the default IPv4 and IPv4 IP address settings.
Which OS can I use on my Dedicated Server in Amsterdam?
There are "officially supported operating systems" in our edge data center located at Stekkenbergweg 4, 1105 AJ in Amsterdam, where we provide bare metal servers with 5 Gbps to 30 Gbps bandwidth and unlimited data transfer. They are Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 20.04, Rocky Linux 9, Rocky Linux 8, Debian 12, RHEL (BYOL) 9.3, RHEL (BYOL) 9.0, RHEL (BYOL) 8.5, and RHEL (BYOL) 7.9. If you need to use virtual server environments on your Amsterdam Edge server, you can install the Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) virtualization technology in Ubuntu 20 (or Ubuntu 22) OS. VMM provides a graphical user interface (GUI) to create and run virtual machines with Linux or Windows operating systems.
In all other Amsterdam data centers where HostColor provides dedicated server hosting services, there is a wider choice of Linux distributions, Windows OS, and virtualization technologies such as Proxmox VE and VMware ESXi, etc.
Are Amsterdam dedicated server resources scalable?
The computing resources provided as part of the Amsterdam Dedicated Hosting service - processing power (CPU), random access memory (RAM), storage capacity used by the IT environment and applications configured on the bare metal server, the amount of data transferred, and the overall network bandwidth rate - can be scaled up to the physical limits of the physical processor, RAM, storage drive(s), and network interface cards (NICs) of the selected hardware configuration.
Depending on the selected physical server system, RAM can be upgraded to the maximum amount supported by the server motherboard. For some Amsterdam Dedicated Servers, storage drives (HDD, SATA, SAS, SSD, or NMVe) can be upgraded without powering down the physical machine. Increasing network bandwidth quotas may require powering down the server and adding additional NIC cards.
Can I upgrade the RAM on my Amsterdam Dedicated Server?
Yes, RAM upgrades vary depending on the processor model, motherboard, and hardware configuration selected.
Amsterdam Dedicated Server configurations listed with 16GB or 32GB of RAM are typically upgradeable to 64GB of RAM.
All servers listed with 32 GB of RAM or 64 GB of RAM are typically upgradeable to 128 GB of RAM, and in some cases to 256 GB of RAM.
Servers listed with 128 GB RAM can be upgraded to 512 GB RAM or even 1024 GB RAM.
Can I upgrade the storage capacity of my Amsterdam Server?
This depends on the hardware configuration of your Amsterdam Dedicated Server. If you feel that you need to increase the storage capacity that you use on the road, we suggest that you speak to the HC team about the possibility of leasing a server that has spare HDD bays that can be upgraded with the storage of your choice.
In general, all dedicated servers in Amsterdam that are provisioned with one (1x) storage drive - either NMVe, SSD or HDD - can be upgraded.
Can I run Virtual Machines on my Amsterdam Dedicated Server?
Yes. If you have a bare-metal server hosted in our Amsterdam data center at Stekkenbergweg 4, you can use the Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) virtualization technology in Ubuntu 20 (or Ubuntu 22) OS to create, run, and manage virtual machines with Linux or Windows operating systems.
If you have a dedicated server hosted in HostColor's other Amsterdam data centers, you can run any Linux or Windows OS, or use Proxmox VE, VMware ESXi, Linux Containers, VirtualBox, OpenVZ, Kubernetes, Docker, or any other virtualization platform.
Can I have a Cloud PC on HC servers in Amsterdam?
If you need a Cloud PC in Amsterdam with a Microsoft Windows operating system, we will provide you with a bare-metal server with Proxmox VE virtualization platform. It will allow you to have multiple Amsterdam-based Cloud PCs (aka Remote Desktops), each running Microsoft Windows 10 or Windows 11. They can be accessed securely via Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP).
If you want to use a Linux-based Cloud PC, we recommend Peppermint OS. It is based on the Debian/Devuan repositories.
How does HC assign IP addresses on the Amsterdam Server?
Clients with Amsterdam dedicated servers hosted in the dat centers located at Koolhovenlaan 120, Schiphol-Rijk, J.W. Lucasweg 35, Schepenbergweg 42, and Lemelerbergweg 28 are assigned 1 usable IP address and can add more IPs at any time.
Each Amsterdam Dedicated server, hosted at Stekkenbergweg 4 data center is assigned its own IPv4 subnet that varies from /29 (8 IP addresses) to /24 (256 IPs). The first three IP addresses are used for the networking service of your server as follows: 1st IP address is for the router default gateway; 2nd IP address is reserved for router1; 3rd IP is reserved for router2. The 4th IP address is the main IP of your Edge Dedicated Server. Any additional IP addresses can be ordered from Accounts.HostColor.com and can be used for various services on your server.
How does HostColor bill my NL Dedicated Server?
Once payment is made, the billing month for your Semi-Managed Dedicated Server in Amsterdam starts from the moment we send you the login credentials. By default, all Amsterdam dedicated hosting services are set to month-to-month contracts to provide maximum flexibility.
You can choose between month-to-month, 3-month, 6-month, and annual contracts. If you opt for an annual contract, you will receive a lower monthly service fee. However, you will need to prepay the full contract (all 12 service fees). Please note that your NL Server on a month-to-month contract must be canceled properly and terminated before we stop billing you. The Amsterdam-based Edge servers, like other dedicated hosting services, require a 30-day cancellation notice. In some cases, we may allow early cancellations. To qualify for an early cancellation, you must submit a cancellation request from your Account 5 business days before the beginning of the new billing cycle.
